Frequently asked questions

  • How does a relocation work?

At SKAN, laboratory equipment relocations are carried out in a structured manner and in close coordination with you. First, we jointly define the framework conditions – for both the current and the new laboratory location. We take into account whether the equipment is biological or cytotoxic. For cytotoxic systems, we assess whether dismantling is required and whether two or three filters are installed. We also clarify whether decontamination is necessary or if a declaration of harmlessness is sufficient.

Upon request, we can perform final measurements if required by your internal regulations.

Our experienced technicians handle the professional dismantling on-site, including the use of lifting equipment, and prepare the system for transport. The entire transport is organized by SKAN. At the new location, the system is reassembled – including maintenance and calibration, if desired.

  • Can contaminated equipment also be transported?

Yes, the transport of contaminated and toxic equipment is generally possible. For microbiological equipment, we always carry out decontamination from BSL-2 level onward for the safety of people and the environment.

If the equipment can be safely wrapped and sealed as a whole, it can be transported without disassembly. However, if disassembly is necessary, the risk of contamination within the laboratory increases. In such cases, detailed planning in close consultation with the customer is required. SKAN takes care of all coordination and organization.

Important aspects such as biological or cytotoxic application, the number of filter stages, and any necessary replacement of the third filter stage after relocation are reviewed individually in advance.

  • Is it worth relocating your system?

Whether a relocation is worthwhile depends on several factors. In a personal consultation, we work with you to assess both the technical and economic aspects:

Is the relocation technically feasible? Are spare parts still available for the system? Does it meet current energy efficiency standards and the latest state of the art?

Our experts at SKAN support you in making the right decision and in planning the next steps.
